The company informed FSIS that the breading may contain the foreign materials, a health risk the agency deemed to be “low.”
The 260 potentially-tainted packages were only distributed to food service establishments, and not retail grocery stores, according to FSIS. Only packages with the code “P-746” are affected by the recall.
“Tyson Foods has identified and is working with affected foodservice customers to retrieve and/or remove all recalled products initially shipped to California, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Michigan and Minnesota,” said Worth Sparkman, senior manager for external communications for Tyson Foods Inc.
To date, there have been no known reports of illness or other injuries that could have been attributed to the problem.
FSIS is advising consumers who purchased the recalled chicken to discard it immediately or return it to the place of purchase for a refund.
